I could not have said it better myself. I remember exactly where I was on Sept 11, 2001 as I’m sure I will for the rest of my life. When I heard that the towers had collapsed my first thought was of all the FF’s and other rescuer’s. The thing that chokes me up to that day especially seeing the Sept 11th shows on TV were/are the PASS devices going off, those on the job knows what that means, to others its just noise but to me its guys needing help and 343 other brothers saying goodbye.

My anniversary date is 9-10-11. Not a year goes by that 9-11 resonates deeper with me than 9-10. If the faint at heart accepted the challenge of what we do on their first day and returned to work on 9-11, they would have paled and left. We love the hell out of this job. I swell with pride every time I see us work, and actually make a difference. Even if we don’t always agree or care for each other-I would gladly risk everything I am to save my brothers/sisters life. If not for them alone, then for the loved ones in their life. And don’t think for a minute that I ever forget where my spouse goes every third day, also.

Very well said. The reference the the Kennnedy assassination is a great comparison. I remember that event as well as my Dad remembers Pearl Harbor.
The drawing of the Fireman coming out of the rubble handing off a flag to a Soldier with the caption of ” I’ll take it from here”, hung in my locker while I was still working and continues to hang in my gun room today.
The Trade center attacks were todays generation chance to see what they are made of. From my perspective, they are giving a good account of themselves.
My thanks to you for putting in print what many of us felt and still feel.
